THE BURIED by Peter Hessler a 2019 National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction Finalist

The National Book Critics Circle has announced 30 finalists in six categories––autobiography, biography, criticism, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry––for the annual National Book Critic Circle Awards, which will be presented on March 12th at the New School in New York City. 

Peter Hessler‘s The Buried: An Archaeology of the Egyptian Revolution is published in the English language by Penguin Press in North America, Profile Books in the United Kingdom, and Text Publishing in Australia and New Zealand.  A German language edition will be published by Hanser in March 2020. Japanese, Polish, Arabic and Complex Character Chinese character editions are also forthcoming.

Pete’s Oracle Bones: A Journey Through Time in China was a 2006 National Book Award Finalist. The second book in his “China Trilogy,”(River Town: Two Years on the Yangtze and Country Driving: A Chinese Road Trip are the first, and third, respectively), Oracle Bones explored the human side of China’s transformation, viewing modern-day China and its growing links to the Western world through the lives of a handful of ordinary people.
