iBauhaus: The iPhone as the Embodiment of Bauhaus Ideals and Design by Nicholas Fox Weber

The New Republic Reviews iBAUHAUS: The iPhone as the Embodiment of Bauhaus Ideals and Design by Nicholas Fox Weber

Rumann Alam, staff writer at The New Republic, and author of the novels That Kind of Mother and Rich and Pretty, writes in his review (paywall):

Weber offers a crash course in the Bauhaus itself. Founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius, it was “a groundbreaking school and laboratory for modernism,” Weber writes, promulgating design that offered both ease and beauty. ... But this is what we should demand of our critics, that they look deeply, with a single-minded focus. Like most of us, I’ve looked at my iPhone countless times; having read this book, I now feel I’ve truly seen the thing.

iBauhaus: The iPhone as the Embodiment of Bauhaus Ideals and Design was published on February 25th  by Alfred A. Knopf in North America.

Nicholas Fox Weber is an authority and celebrant of 20th century modernism, ranging from the paintings of Balthus to the architecture of Le Corbusier. He was a close associate of Anni and Josef Albers, the last living giants of the Bauhaus. His books include The Bauhaus Group: Six Master of ModernismLe Corbusier: A Life, and Patron Saints: Five Rebel Patrons who Opened America to a New Art (1928-1943).
